Today's Items1. U.K. ECO Issues Amended OGEL for Historic Vintage Military Vehicles and Artillery Pieces Further to its earlier Notice (2009/12), the U.K. Export Control Organisation (ECO) will be be revoking Open General Export Licence (Vintage Military Vehicles) and replacing with an amended version. The replacement amended licence, Open General Export Licence (Historic Military Vehicles and Artillery Pieces) will enter into force 1st November 2009. The amended licence has been extended to allow the export of a wider range of goods including artillery pieces and vehicles less than 50 years old where they are intended for historic re-enactment or commemorative events, private battlefield tours or private recreational purposes to all EU Member States plus Channel Islands and Norway providing they are returned to the UK within 3 calendar months. the original licence is available at: OGEL (Historic Military Vehicles and Artillery Pieces). The amended version will be published on 1 November. As with other OGELs, exporters will need to register for the licence on SPIRE and adhere to all the terms and conditions. 2. U.S. and China Sign Nine Agreements At Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade Meeting The United States and China signed nine agreements as this year's China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade came to an end in Hangzhou, China. Representatives from U.S. and Chinese governments and companies signed nine agreements, covering areas such as aviation, energy, environment, high technology trade, investment promotion, statistics, and travel and tourism, and witnessed two commercial signings. The two governments also agreed to cooperate on initiatives in the areas of the environment, transparency, global distribution services, dietary supplements, and standards. 3. National Nanotechnology Coordination Office Schedules Workshop on Environmental, Health, and Safety Aspects of Nanomaterials on Nov. 17-18 (74 Fed. Reg. 56245) - The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO), on behalf of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the Committee on Technology, National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), will hold a workshop on November 17, 2009, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and November 18, 2009, 8:30 am. to 3:30 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn-Key Bridge Hotel, 1900 N. Fort Myer Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22209, to provide an open forum to discuss the state-of-the-art of the science related to environmental, health, and safety aspects of nanomaterials in two areas: human health and instrumentation and metrology. Nanomaterials and Human Health & Instrumentation, Metrology, and Analytical Needs are two of the five environmental, health, and safety research categories identified in the NSET Subcommittee document Strategy for Nanotechnology-Related Environmental, Health, and Safety Research, which was released February 14, 2008. 4. National Nanotechnology Coordination Office Schedules Workshop on Nanotechnology R & D on Nov. 16 (74 Fed. Reg. 56246) - The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO), on behalf of the Nanoscale Science, Engineering, and Technology (NSET) Subcommittee of the Committee on Technology, National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), will hold a public meeting on November 16, 2009, 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Rosslyn-Key Bridge Hotel, 1900 N. Fort Myer Drive, Arlington, Virginia 22209, on nanotechnology research and development, including environmental, health, and safety concerns. The purpose of this meeting is to provide general background material about nanotechnology and Federal nanotechnology research to participants. 5.
